Arms: Azure, two bars wavy or, between in chief two lymphads, sails furled, oars in action, colours flying, all Or. In base three salmon fretted also Or.
Crest: The crest is a lark ascending or, a visual allusion to my father's childhood nickname for me: "Rodger the Lark."
Motto: The motto Sure and Certain Hope alludes to Hebrews 6:19, "We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul."
Badge: Three salmon fretted Or.
Design Rationale:
The arms allude to my Scottish descent in both lines. My father's family comes from Avoch, a fishing village on the Black Isle near Inverness. My mother's family are of the Clan MacColl (original members of Clan Donald, hence the lymphads) from the Isle of Mull and later Glasgow. I am third-generation clergy in the Episcopal Church, alluded to by the Trinitarian arrangement of salmon in base. Both personal and ecclesiastical arms were designed by Navy Chaplain Fr. Sinclair Ender, heraldic artist and Episcopal priest.
