Design Rationale:
An example of canting arms, the three mural crowns represent TriCities (three cities), surrounded by greenery, adjoined by the Yakima River, Snake River, and the Columbia River. The Paschal lamb, representing both peace and sacrifice, is depicted with an ancient symbol for the medical profession (similar to the staff of Asclepius), merging two powerful symbols of healing and spiritual salvation. Its motto, translated "In Christ, there is healing", emphasizes that true spiritual and physical healing comes through Christ, with the physician serving as an instrument. The municipal symbols of Richland and Kennewick include depictions of the Sun, while Pasco's depicts the three colors of the wreath. The haloed winged bulls are the symbolic representations of Saint Luke the Evangelist, patron saint of Physicians and Surgeons.
